Sophia, an intelligent humanoid robot, has been granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia. This makes Saudi Arabia the first country in the world to give a bot the same status reserved for humans.

Sophia, an AI robot, pointed out concerns that AI robots could be an exitensial threat to humans. She was awarded the citizenship while on stage at the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh.

The move comes in an attempt to promote Saudi Arabia as a place to develop artificial intelligence. But at the same time, the same rights aren't given to some humans in the country.

Sophia who was designed to look like Audrey Hepburn, was created by David Hanson, the founder of Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics.
