Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls due in 2017, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday said the Ram temple is the part of BJP's 2014 manifesto, and added that it is the party’s obligation to the people to fulfill its promise.

“The Ram issue is a part of our manifesto in 2014. How can we run away from it? We have to deliver,” Swamy told ANI.

Swamy said the matter cannot be resolved forcibly, but the Supreme Court needs to take some action as the matter is pending from the past six years.

“Now it’s time for the matter to be heard and disposed off and the Muslim party is also agreeing to the hearing. I am filling an application on this matter seeking the court to issue notice to the government,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Congress had accused the BJP using the name of Lord Ram to siphon off a victory in Uttar Pradesh.

"The Congress has nothing to do with the BJP constructing a museum there (Ayodhya), or the Samajwadi Party organising things for the Ramayana mela. The BJP is selling the name of Ram in the wake of coming UP polls," said Congress leader D.P. Singh.

Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar, on the other hand, asked the BJP-led Central government to intensify its efforts to construct Ram temple in Ayodhya instead of giving 'lollipop' (Ram museum) to please the people, who are demanding the construction of the temple.
