In a surprise twist to Bengaluru's KG Halli molestation case, investigation revealed that the incident was faked by the 'victim' and her brother-in-law who was in a relationship with her and wanted to marry her.

According to media reports, the suspect, 34-year-old Irshad Khan, was in love with the 25-year-old 'victim' who is his wife's sister and lived with his family.

Khan, who was arrested, told the police that when the family members of the girl learnt about their relationship, they decided to marry her off. The accused, who saw the news about the Kammanahalli molestation incident that was captured on CCTV, hatched a plan to malign the reputation of the girl. He thought that faking a molestation incident would force the girl's family to allow them to get married.

On January 6, Khan went around looking for CCTV cameras at Govindapura Circle in the morning. After discovering one that was installed outside a shop, he stalked the 'victim' who had left her house for work. Later, he went to the shopkeeper and told him about the incident and requested him for the CCTV footage.

After getting the footage, he edited it and released it to TV channels. The 'victim' and her family went to the police station and registered a complaint along with the CCTV footage. Khan too went along with them to the station.

The girl claimed that she sustained injuries when she was attacked and said she bit her tongue in panic. She, however, never spoke about her relationship with Khan.

The cops, who examined the footage, saw that the attacker was limping. Curiously, Khan too was limping when he came to the police station. The police grew suspicious and recorded his way of walking without telling him and matched it with that of the attacker. They found that the walking styles matched.

The police arrested him and when questioned he admitted to the crime.
