Malayalis are known to create innovative hashtags on social media to respond to those who, they feel, have hurt their pride. Whether it is #PoMoneShaji, #PoMoneModi or #AlavalathiShaji, tech-savvy Malayalis' social media reactions are always laced with humour and inspired by punch dialogues of their cine superstars.

Now, it is the turn of BJP national general secretary Saroj Pandey to be at the receiving end of their ire. Pandey, a former Lok Sabha MP, had threatened to enter the house of CPI(M) workers in Kerala and gouge their eyes.

"This march (Janaraksha Yatra) started by our national president was to ensure that in future if our workers (in Kerala) are shown eyes repeatedly, then we will certainly enter their homes and gouge those eyes out," she had said while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of an educational institution in Kumhari on Sunday. She added that if need be, the Union government would dissolve the Kerala government.

As expected, her statements didn't go down well with Malayalis, who took to social media to register their protest. Eventually, a hashtag #GougeDa started going viral on Twitter with more and more people joining the protest. GougeDa can be roughly translated as a counter challenge to come and gouge their eyes if they dare. Several people have posted photographs of their own and other popular actors wearing sunglasses.

Meanwhile, Malayalam actor Alencier Ley Lopez filed a complaint against Pandey at Chavara police station in Kollam.
