A tribal woman and her husband were arrested in Assam on Tuesday after she allegedly hacked to death a man, who tried to rape her, and disposed his body. The couple have been remanded to judicial custody by a local court.
According to reports, the incident happened at Bharajuli village on April 4, but came to light only on Tuesday when the police exhumed the body and sent it for autopsy. The woman, Rita Orang, told police that she disposed the body in a nearby graveyard with the help of some local women.
The murdered was identified as Krishna Bhumij (30) who is said to be a notorious criminal and had been on the run after facing non-bailable arrest warrant in two other cases.
Rita said she attacked Krishna with an axe when the latter tried to rape her and her daughter at their house. She said she hacked him and he fell flat. “Later, I chopped off his private parts as I feared that he could survive the attack and retaliate,” Rita was quoted as saying by an English daily.
Police learnt about the murder while probing a missing complaint filed by Krishna's family.
