Hyderabad, Nov 7 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth on Saturday accused the BRS of stalling the CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram project by "kneeling before Modi".

Addressing a public meeting in his assembly constituency, Kodangal, he alleged that the BRS indulged in corruption to the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore during its 10-year rule.

He also took a jibe at BRS Working President K T Rama Rao for growing a beard, saying that he "cannot become Revanth Reddy by growing a beard".

"Even if you take 10 births or hang yourself from a toddy tree, you remain Taraka Rama Rao but cannot become Revanth Reddy in your life. You need the courage to take care of activists, keeping them close to your heart," he claimed.

Despite being chief minister for 10 years and the state budget touching Rs 20 lakh crore, BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao (Known as KCR) has not completed any pending irrigation projects, he alleged.

Though the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh planned the Pranahita Chevella project to provide irrigation to over 16 lakh acres, KCR transformed it into the Kaleshwaram project by changing its location and escalating the cost, he said.

The project was constructed by KCR and it "collapsed" during his regime, he said.

"When Medigadda, Annaram, Sundills barrages (of Kaleshwaram) collapsed, when the investigation was underway, is it not you who went to Delhi, knelt before Modi and delayed and stalled the CBI probe," he asked.

The BRS leaders are spreading disinformation that Godavari water is going to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh due to the negligence of the Congress government, he said.

Urging Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, who was present on the occasion, to convene the assembly session for a few days in December "for a debate on the impact of El Niño, the Kaleshwaram project and Pranahita and Godavari waters to expose the BRS".

"Will skin them and put it in front of the assembly. Lies flow out if they open their mouths," he said.

Cautioning people about the El Niño crisis, he said the government would stand by the people.

The chief minister announced the launch of 'Praja Balam' (People’s strength) programme after the Sankranthi festival in January next year. During the programme, he said that he would visit villages.

The CM appealed to people to support the government in tackling the El Niño and the drought conditions.

He requested farmers to cultivate crops that require less water in the Rabi season.

Revanth Reddy also said water from Devadula, via the Sitarama project, was released to the farmers of Khammam district.

The government is also currently supplying water to the farmers of Khammam district—drawing from the Sammakka Sarakka (barrage) through the Devadula and Sitarama projects, he added.
