Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6 (PTI) The CEC, Keralam, has launched the ‘Campus to Booth’ campaign to encourage eligible school and college students aged 17 and above to enrol in the electoral rolls.
The week-long special enrolment drive, which began on November 2, enables eligible higher secondary school and college students to apply for inclusion in the electoral rolls using Form 6, according to a statement on Friday.
Sajith Babu, the state Chief Electoral Officer, inaugurated the campaign at Government Arts College here. He also interacted with students at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Peroorkada, highlighting the importance of voter registration and participation in the democratic process.
The campaign, being conducted at higher secondary schools and colleges across the state under the tagline “Step Forward, Get Counted”, is part of a wider effort to create awareness among young voters and encourage them to take their first step towards electoral participation.
District Collectors have been directed to take necessary steps to ensure maximum student participation in voter awareness and enrolment activities organised in association with the Election Commission, the statement said.
The initiative seeks to ensure that eligible young citizens are enrolled in the electoral rolls in advance so that they can exercise their franchise upon attaining the age of 18.
It also aims to involve students in voter awareness activities through Electoral Literacy Clubs in schools and colleges, the statement added.
