In a major upset in South Carolina’s Senate race, the Democratic Party's Dr Annie Andrews humbled Republican Senator Darline Graham. Graham's defeat comes not long after she was tasked with succeeding her late brother, Lindsey Graham.
Dr Annie Andrews is a paediatrician by profession and will be the state’s first Democratic senator in more than 20 years. Andrews' win, along with Democrat Roy Cooper's win in North Carolina's Senate race, gave the party two of the four seats it needs to net in order to take control of the chamber.
After the death of his ally Sen. Lindsey Graham, Graham's sister Darline was appointed to fill his seat and President Donald Trump encouraged her to run for a full six-year term.
