Former Governor and Democrat Roy Cooper won the Senate seat in North Carolina, which has for long been a Republican stronghold. This also marks the first flip in the US Senate. He defeated Trump-backed Michael Whatley.

In the House of Representatives, the Democrats need to net three seats to take over the control of the chamber from the GOP.
Senator Jon Ossoff will retain the Senate seat in Georgia reelection as he is set to defeat Rep Mike Collins, according to a CNN projection. Ossoff is seen a potential 2028 presidential candidate.
In a relief for the GOP, Republican Shelley Capito won reelection to US Senate from West Virginia.
