In a massive military offensive against Islamabad, the Afghan forces on Thursday targeted security installations in Pakistan. The attack comes in retaliation for Pakistan's airstrikes in Afghanistan on February 22.
The heavy fighting along the Durand Line in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has inflicted heavy losses in Pakistan's military checkpoints on the border.
“In response to repeated insurrections and insurrections by Pakistan’s military circles, extensive offensive operations were launched on Pakistani army centres and military facilities along the Durand Line," Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid said in a video on X.
On February 22, Pakistani military carried out strikes in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces of Afghanistan, claiming that it killed at least 70 militants.
However, Afghanistan dismissed the claim, saying the attack killed dozens of women and children. “Last night, they bombed our civilian compatriots in Nangarh and Paktika provinces, martyring and wounding dozens of people, including women and children," said Zabihullah.
The UN mission in Afghanistan said the Pakistani airstrikes killed at least 13 civilians.
On Tuesday Pakistani government official Mosharraf Zaidi accused Afghan forces of unprovoked firing near Torkham border. “Pakistan’s security forces responded immediately and effectively silencing the Taliban aggression,” Zaidi posted on X.
