Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Paris to attend the AI Action Summit, went viral on social media on Tuesday, but for the wrong reasons. A video purportedly showing French President Emmanuel Macron ignoring Modi, who extended his hand towards the French President, was widely interpreted as Macron's snub to Modi.
Footage showed Macron walking to greet the attendees at the Summit. He first greets US Vice President J D Vance before moving on to other guests. The Prime Minister who was sitting nearby leans to shake Macron's hand but the French President overlooks him and goes on to greet others present at the spot.

Modi was then seen waving towards European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Macron was also the EU President among other leaders.
The incident has sparked reactions on social media. Some rallied to call it a diplomatic slight to Modi from Macron while many felt it was unintentional. Neither the French nor the Indian government has commented on the exchange.
However, another video shows the two leaders sharing pleasantries and a warm handshake before entering the conference hall together. There are also other footage from the event showing Macron and Modi interacting warmly and welcoming him to Paris with a hug. The French President also hosted a dinner for the Prime Minister, who took to Twitter to reciprocate the welcome. "Delighted to meet my friend, President Macron in Paris," Modi posted on X on Monday.
