Following retaliatory attacks by Tehran on Tel Aviv on Saturday night, the Indian mission in Israel has issued an "important advisory" for Indians on Sunday, advising them to stay calm and adhere to safety protocols.

"In light of the recent events in the region, all Indian nationals in Israel are advised to stay calm and adhere to the safety protocols issued by the local authorities," the Indian mission stated in the "important advisory" posted on social media.

"The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and it is in touch with the Israeli authorities and Indian community members to ensure the safety of all our nationals," it added, urging Indian nationals to register with the embassy at a given link.

On Friday, the Indian embassy had issued another advisory advising citizens in Israel to "avoid unnecessary travel, remain calm and follow safety guidelines issued by the local authorities".

This was Iran's first attack on Israel from its own soil. An Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson claimed that 99 per cent of the roughly 330 missiles and drones launched by Iran were intercepted. Iran's attack came in response to Israel's alleged attack on its embassy in Syria's Damascus.

Tehran warned that if Tel Aviv retaliates, it will launch a larger attack on Israeli territory, adding that US bases would be targeted if Washington backs any military action by the Jewish state again Iran. "Our response will be much larger than tonight's military action if Israel retaliates against Iran," armed forces chief of staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri told state TV.

Iran's ally Syria also put its ground-to-air defence systems around Damascus and major bases on high alert.
