After decades of run, Daniela Klette, a member of Germany's militant group Red Army Faction (RAF) has been arrested in Berlin on Tuesday. She was charged with armed robbery and attempted murder. She was on the run for around 30 years.

The arrest comes after a police broadcast two weeks ago seeking information about three members of the group. The broadcast on the cold case show Aktenzeichen XY yielded 250 tips.

Along with her, two other fugitives, Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub were on the run.

RAF, a far-left group, founded by Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof killed at least 33 people including public officials, police, business leaders and US soldiers during the 1970s. However, reportedly, the group wound itself up in 1998.

The charges facing Klette, along with Garweg and Staub, relate to millions of euros’ worth of armed robberies and at least one attempted murder committed between 1999 and 2016.

The 65-year-old is being held in custody having been brought before a judge in Verden, Lower Saxony.

The interior minister of Lower Saxony, Daniela Behrens, called the Klette arrest a “fantastic success” and said it sent out the message “that terrorists in Germany can never feel safe”.

“This is also a signal for the victims of terrorism that acts of terrorism do not go forgotten,” she said.

According to officials, ammunition and two magazines for a handgun was found in her flat. Klette was living under a false identity, said officials.
