Gunfire erupted early on Sunday at an after-prom party in Texas-- at least nine teenagers were shot.

Just after midnight, deputies responded to shots fired at a private residence in Jasper County where the party was held and found nine victims with gunshot wounds, according to a statement by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

"Upon arrival, nine victims were found to have non-life-threatening injuries," the statement said. "The incident erupted at an after-prom party that was being held at the residence on County Road 263. Most victims were transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital, and some were transferred to Christus St. Elizabeth for further treatment," the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

About 250 people were present when the shooting took place. An investigation is going on and people of interest are being interviewed. However, it isn't clear if any suspect is in custody yet. The motive for the shooting hasn't been established.

A second shooting within the city limits of Jasper, Texas occurred shortly after the first, the statement said. There were no injuries in the second shooting, but a connection between the two incidents is being investigated due to a common vehicle at both locations, the statement said.
