Donald Trump's case regarding the payments made by the former president to adult film actor and producer Stormy Daniels will be presented with evidence to a grand jury. The hush money was reportedly paid during the 2016 election campaign. Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg revived the long-running investigation that appeared to be drifting. Bragg raises the threat of adding criminal charges.

The report comes two days after Trump became the first candidate to hit the 2024 election campaign trail-- he has started delivering speeches in states like New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Stephanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, has claimed she has sex with Trump in 2006 when he was married to Melania. She was reportedly paid $130,000 to keep the matter quiet. Trump had denied the allegation-- he also denied having slept with Daniels. Michael Cohen, former attorney to Trump met with the prosecutors and asked if he could be asked to appear before the grand jury.

Cohen, in 2018, pleaded guilty to federal campaign finance violations linked to his role in the hush money payment, the Guardian reported. He was sentenced to three years for that and other crimes.

In 2018, Trump, in a tweet clarified that the money was "not from the campaign" and that the deal had been “a private contract between two parties, known as a non-disclosure agreement, or NDA.”
