Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk who tweeted 'The bird is freed' soon after taking over Twitter received a quick response from European Union regarding internet regulations.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk closed the $44-billion Twitter deal on Thursday, becoming the new owner of the microblogging site. He has also fired at least four top executives of Twitter, including its Indian-origin CEO Parag Agrawal.

Soon after taking over Twitter, Musk tweeted, “The bird is freed.” Responding to the tweet, Thierry Breton, the Commissioner for the internet market in European Union said, “In Europe, the bird will fly by our rules.” Breton tweeted with the hashtag #DSA referring to the Digital Services Act designed by the Union to tighten the regulation of social media.

In a statement published on the social media platform, Musk said he acquired Twitter since it was important for future civilization to have a common digital town square. Musk said, “I didn't do it to make more money. I did it to try to help humanity, whom I love.”
