A Ukrainian official has claimed the Russian invasion of his country could be over by early May as by then Moscow's forces would have run out of resources.

Oleksiy Arestovich, an adviser to the Ukrainian president's chief of staff, made the comments in a video that was shared by Ukrainian media outlets.

He noted the exact timing of the end of the conflict would depend on how much resources Russia was willing to commit.

“I think that no later than in May, early May, we should have a peace agreement, maybe much earlier, we will see, I am talking about the latest possible dates... We are at a fork in the road now: there will either be a peace deal struck very quickly, within a week or two, with troop withdrawal and everything, or there will be an attempt to scrape together some, say, Syrians for a round two and, when we grind them too, an agreement by mid-April or late April,” Arestovich was quoted as saying by Reuters.

However, he warned of a “completely crazy” scenario: Russia sending new conscripts with a month of training.

Interestingly, he warned that even if a peace deal was achieved, “small tactical clashes could remain possible for a year,” Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, a former US Army lieutenant general claimed on Monday Russia could run out of resources in less than two weeks.

Retired lieutenant general Ben Hodges told a Fox News programme “Russians, I think, are about ten days away from what is called the culminating point, when they just no longer have the ammunition nor the manpower to keep up their assault.” Hodges, who served as the commanding general of the US Army in Europe, cautioned that the US should not overreact to the Russian operation.
