Former US president Donald Trump, while speaking in Greenville North Carolina, criticised infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Trump also denounced an investigation into his finances and demanded repatriation from China.

Trump was addressing a Republican Party convention, the Guardian reported. Trump said that China should pay $10 trillion in repatriation to the US and the world for its handling of the virus and that the world should cancel its debts to Beijing.

Trump, on Thursday, had said that he was right about the virus coming from the Wuhan lab. His comment on Thursday came days after Fauci said that he did not believe the coronavirus evolved naturally. Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump was also present at the convention. Trump said Fauci, “not a great doctor but a great promoter,” commenting on the doctor’s numerous television appearances.

Trump’s public appearance in a long time mirrored his campaign rallies, complete with a playlist featuring Elton John songs.

Trump also said that he would help Republicans in the 2022 congressional elections. He also endorsed US Representative Ted Budd for a US Senate seat in North Carolina.

“The survival of America depends upon our ability to elect Republicans at every level, starting with the mid-terms next year,” Trump said.

Trump is expected to make appearances in Ohio, Florida, Alabama and Georgia to show support to Republican Party candidates for midterm elections.
