Three years since Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had no smartphone and no interest in social media, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has invited the Russian premier to what is arguably the hottest new invite-only social media app out there: Clubhouse.

Musk, who dropped the invite on Twitter to the official Kremlin handle, may end up getting his wish fulfilled—a Kremlin spokesperson speaking to journalists has said the idea was “interesting” and that the Kremlin wanted more details about the planned interaction.

If Putin speaks with Musk on Clubhouse, a live audio-chat social media platform that lets users listen in on conversations, he would join the ranks of Kanye West, Oprah, Malcolm Gladwell and other celebrities who have been flocking to the exclusive iOS-only app. Musk has been among its greatest advocates, even inviting Kanye West to do an episode with him.

Musk invited the Russian premier like it was an elevator pitch: Short and concise.

“@KremlinRussia_E would you like to join me for a conversation on Clubhouse?” Musk tweeted, before adding, in Russian, “It would be a great honour to speak with you”.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov then told reporters on a conference call: “In general, this is of course a very interesting proposal, but we need to understand what is meant, what is being proposed...first we need to check, then we will react.”
