The city of Wuhan in central China appears to have moved away from the coronavirus. Wuhan, once the global epicentre of the pandemic, threw a massive water park party over the weekend to celebrate it overcoming the virus, as it edges back to normal life.

The popular Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park was filled with people frolicking in swimsuits and goggles for an electronic music festival, with several of them perched on rubber floaters or wading up to their chest in water.

The party scene is still unthinkable of, as many parts of the world are still struggling to fight off the deadly virus. After being under strict lockdown for 76 days, Wuhan slowly reopened in April. The city hasn’t reported any new cases of the virus since May.

At the event was a performer in a stage show at the front of the water, waving at the crowd at the venue. Another performer on a water jet board entertained his audience by hovering above them with sparks shooting from his back.

None of the partygoers was wearing face masks. The Hubei government, in a bid to boost the economy, has been offering free entry to 400 tourist sites across the province.

The Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park reopened at the end of June, but seasonal rains prevented people from visiting it.
