Billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said the coronavirus pandemic may end in many countries by 2021. Bill Gates is optimistic that a vaccine will be developed soon and the world at large will see the end of the pandemic by 2022.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been working and funding vaccine studies for the coronavirus.
Last week, Pune-based Serum Institute of India said it is expected to receive funding to the tune of $150 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the international vaccine alliance, Gavi, to make 100 million coronavirus doses for India and other emerging economies as early as 2021.
Bill Gates, in an interview with CNN, said that the US government has not improved its testing for the coronavirus and there are more “mind-blowing” problems with the system.
“No other country has this testing insanity... A variety of early missteps by the US and then the political atmosphere meant that we didn’t get our testing going,” Gates said.
“It’s mind-blowing that you can’t get the government to improve the testing because they just want to say how great it is,” he added.
Gates also said the economic devastation caused due to the pandemic will be hard to reverse.
