Final election results showed that the Boris-led Conservative party won 326 of the 650 seats in the lower House of Commons, meaning Johnson will continue as UK's PM.

This will also mean an end to the uncertainty over Brexit and will help him to take the UK out of the European Union by the end of next month.

Indian PM Narendra Modi expressed congratulations to Johnson via Twitter and said he looked forward to working together for closer India-UK ties.

Johnson who was re-elected in Uxbridge London said, "It does look as though this One Nation Conservative government has been given a powerful new mandate to get Brexit done."

Johnsons's 20-week tenure as PM was marked with divisions in the parliament over Britain's tortuous departure from the European Union.
