The Duke of Edinburgh will celebrate his 98th birthday today. His Royal Highness retired from public duties in 2017. He was last seen in public at Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle last month.

A 41-gun salute later today will mark the Prince's birthday. He will celebrate his birthday in private with his family. The Prince who got married to Queen Elizabeth in 1947, has been enjoying a life of privacy at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate or Windsor Castle where he enjoys reading, painting and welcoming friends.

Last year, after being involved in a driving accident that injured two women, he voluntarily gave up his driver's license. Born Prince of Greece and Denmark, he met Queen Elizabeth when she was only 13 and he, 18. They exchanged letters over the years and got married when the Queen turned 21.
