Post a three-day visit to Britain, that included a state banquet with Queen Elizabeth II, US President Donald Trump reaches France for second day of ceremonies to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings by Allied troops.

President Trump will visit Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial and meet with President Emmanuel Macron in Caen, a city that was heavily bombed during the World War II invasion.

Trump had tweeted Wednesday that he “could not have been treated more warmly in the United Kingdom by the royal family or the people”. French President Emannuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Theresa May visited a new British war memorial at the coastal town of Ver-sur-Mer in Normandy today for a ceremony on the anniversary of D-Day.

Trump in the meantime also discussed tariffs on Mexican and Chinese imports, and to bash Democrats over immigration laws before he boarded the plane to France. “Mexico was in yesterday. They’re coming back this morning,” said Mr. Trump. Trump had threatened to impose a 5 per cent tariff on Mexican imports in order to force the country to take additional measures to curb the flow of Central American migrants crossing the United States border.

“They have to step up to the plate — and perhaps they will,” he said. Mr. Trump also said that was prepared to impose “at least $300 billion” in additional tariffs on goods from China, “and I’ll do that at the right time.”

He said that Democrats in Congress had been “a disaster,” adding, “They want free immigration. They want immigration to pour into our country.”
