Veteran Tamil film producer K. Rajan has reportedly died by suicide. He was 85 years old. According to reports, Chennai Fire and Rescue personnel recovered his body after he drowned and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
K. Rajan, who had also acted in about 18 films, was a vocal supporter of low-budget Tamil movies, and some of his remarks and opinions caused storms on social media.
As per local media reports, K. Rajan was in the middle of a journey in a car when the unfortunate incident took place. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, Daily Thanthi said in a report.
Some news outlets claimed that he had been staying at a private hotel for a long time instead of being with his family.
Rajan's association with Tamil cinema began in 1983 by producing Brahmacharikal,Dinamani said in a report.He has also directed two films, Namma Ooru Mariamma and Ambajgal, starring actors Sarathkumar and Nizhalgal Ravi, the reoprt said. He also worked as a writer on two films released in 1991, Thangamana Thangachi and Chinnap Poovai Killathe.
K. Rajan’s death has caused shock and sadness within the film industry. Several members of the industry have expressed condolences over his passing. He had also served as the president of the Chennai Distributors Association.
