Vega shines in Paraguay's win over NZ
Anibal Vega scored a brace as Paraguay snatched a 4-2 win over New Zealand in Group B game of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Navi Mumbai. Despite Paraguay skipper Alexis Duarte conceding two own goals, Vega ensured full three points for his side by finding the net in the 75th and 78th minutes. New Zealand were leading 2-1 at the half-way mark, courtesy two own goals by Duarte, but Paraguay bounced back in the style to record their second win of the tournament and qualify for the knockout rounds. With this win Paraguay have six points in the kitty and are on the top of the table.
US pip Ghana in Group A clash
The United States got the better of Ghana 1-0 to solidify their position at the top of Group A in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Substitute forward Ayo Akinola's 75th-minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides as Ghana failed to score from many opportunities. With this win, the US have six points from two games, while Ghana remain second with three points from two games. It was a match between teams who had won their respective campaign openers, with Ghana getting the better of Colombia and the US prevailing over hosts India.
Mali keep knockout hopes alive
Mali kept themselves in the running for a place in the knockout stages with a 3-0 thrashing of Turkey in a Group B match at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Navi Mumbai. Djemoussa Traore put the Africans ahead in the 38th minute before Lassana N'Diaye (68th) and Fode Konate (86th) scored late in the game to add some extra gloss to the scoreline. Mali, who fell 2-3 to Paraguay in their first game, now have three points from two matches. The African outfit were on the attack right from the opening whistle and Turkey will thank their goalkeeper Berke Ozer for putting up a stellar display and averting a bigger margin of defeat.
