Manchester United can certainly expect Napoli to pay €44 million (£38 million) for Rasmus Højlund, as the Serie A side is convinced that the Danish striker should stay on a permanent deal.
The 23-year-old Højlund left for Italy on a loan deal, and the Naples-based team had an obligation to make the move permanent if they qualified for the Champions League. According to a new report, they no longer care for the clause, even though Napoli is well on course to secure a spot in the top-tier European competition.
Højlund, who struggled to live up to his hefty price tag at Old Trafford, is thriving in Italy, where he has veteran Romelu Lukaku for company. The Scandinavian star has managed 13 goals and four assists across all competitions so far and shows no signs of slowing down. A mere 14 goals from 62 appearances was all he could manage for the Red Devils. Inconsistency, his biggest foe in England, seems to have left him, the statistics show.

Whenever Napoli struggled to break down stubborn opposition defences, Højlund appeared in the box with magic in his boots, and the fans love him alongside Scott McTominay—another United departee. Højlund's familiarity with Italy, having played for Atalanta before joining the Premier League side, could also be a reason for his return to form.
With ten rounds to go, Napoli are third in Serie A with 56 points—eleven behind leaders Inter Milan. Manchester United, who are also on the hunt for a top-four finish under interim manager Michael Carrick, are reportedly planning to offload many stars in the hope of bringing in young players who could rewrite the club's fortunes. Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, Bruno Fernandes, and Lisandro Martínez could all be on their way out, as the club has identified multiple targets across various positions.
