India batter Jemimah Rodrigues will not be rejoining Brisbane Heat for the remainder of the 2025 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season, and an agreement has been reached between the two parties, reports said.

India's heroine in the semi-final of the recently held ICC Women's World Cup, Jemimah Rodrigues had returned home to participate in the wedding of her international teammate and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. However, in the light of the postponement of the wedding and her father's ill health, Rodrigues wanted to remain with her friend and approached Brisbane Heat asking for an exception.

“Rodrigues will stay in India to support her teammate, and the Heat has agreed to her not returning for the final four games of the WBBL season,” read the Brisbane Heat’s official statement. Right-handed Rodrigues had played the first three games of the season.

“It has obviously been a challenging time for Jemi, so while it is unfortunate that she will take no further part in the WBBL, we were more than willing to agree to her request to remain in India,” Brisbane Heat CEO Terry Svenson was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Brisbane Heat are winless in the tournament after six games -- four points behind seventh-placed Sydney Thunder.

Why was Smriti Mandhana's wedding postponed?

Filmmaker-musician Palash Muchhal was hospitalised due to viral fever. He was later discharged after a few hours under observation. Muchhal's health had deteriorated considerably due to the fever, forcing his team to take the decision of hospitalisation. The 30-year-old was advised rest to complete the process of recovery.

"Mr Srinivas Mandhana got left-sided chest pain, we call it 'angina' in medical terms. As the symptoms surfaced, his son called me, we sent an ambulance, he was shifted to hospital. We found out in ECG, other reports, that cardiac enzymes are elevated, hence we need to keep him in observation," the doctor who treated the Indian opener's father had told news agency PTI. His condition is said to be stable and is said to be recovering steadily.

Sunday (November 23) was the chosen date for Smriti's wedding with Muchhal and the festivities began a few days earlier with most members of the Indian Women's cricket team attending the function. Apart from all the traditional customs of a North Indian wedding, there was also a cricket match held between Smriti's girls and Muchhal's gang.

However, the marriage had to be halted due to Srinivas's drastic health deterioration, and currently, there is no info on the new marriage date. An official statement on this is expected from the Mandhana family once Srinivas is discharged.
