Alexis Mac Allister to Real Madrid is still possible. Will Liverpool lose another starter to Real Madrid?

Alexis Mac Allister was not at his best this season for Liverpool but remains in fine touch when representing Argentina, as the game against Puerto Rico showed. The 26-year-old was asked to operate out of his natural position and still scored a brace, almost reigniting Real Madrid's interest in him, reports said.

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso loves Alexis Mac Allister and had earlier asked the club to track him. However, since the start of the season, the World Cup winner was putting in pretty ordinary performances for Liverpool, which almost convinced the Los Blancos to stop the pursuit. But the way he played for Argentina in the international setup has reportedly convinced the Spanish giants to conclude that it is too early to give up on him.

Mac Allister is contracted at Anfield until 2028 and may cost Real at least €120 million, TeamTalk said, reaffirming the transfer rumour to be genuine. Ryan Gravenberch, who also plays for Liverpool, has also impressed Real. Although the Dutch international is younger than Mac Allister, which means a longer option in midfield, the Argentine has a more realistic chance of making a switch, reports had said.

Ever since Toni Kroos left, Real Madrid have lacked a central midfielder who could dictate the pace and rhythm of the match for them. Mac Allister has what it takes to speed up or slow down play and could even switch play effortlessly from flank to flank, stretching opponents. He is good with set-pieces, particularly corner kicks, another area that Toni Kroos used to thrive in.

While Alexis Mac Allister is an integral part of the Liverpool setup under Arne Slot, he was never declared an untouchable like Gravenberch. Also, it needs to be seen if he will withstand the temptation to play for Real Madrid—something that Trent Alexander-Arnold couldn't resist. Ibrahima Konaté is also said to be on his way out of Anfield to don the famous white shirt next summer, and the Reds are trying to rope in Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace to fill his void.
