Liverpool is trying to make a £35 million fee for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi stick amidst Joe Gomez getting the attention of AC Milan.
28-year-old centre-back, Gomez could join his England teammate Fikayo Tomori at the Italian capital only if Marc Guehi decides to leave Selhurst Park, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano said. Guehi, along with Swedish striker Alexander Isak, remains the missing pieces of Liverpool's fabled transfer season, which has already broken the British record. With the deadline fast approaching, many sources close to Anfield remain confident that both players will be signed before the window shuts on September 1.
According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan is seeking a permanent deal for Joe Gomez, who can also operate on either flank of the defence. However, he didn't mention the amount being offered by the Serie A side. "AC Milan send official bid to Liverpool for Joe Gomez, negotiations underway. Understand it’s permanent transfer proposal with clubs discussing terms. Joe Gomez will be allowed to leave if Marc Guehi joins #LFC, the post on X said.
As per Transfermarkt, the former Charlton player is worth €20 million in the market.
Meanwhile, Liverpool's global talent scout Stewart Downing claimed that Guehi will be captain Virgil Van Dijk's long-term replacement at Anfield. He said there is a real possibility that VVD and Guehi would start together before the Dutchman makes way for the younger star, Goal.com reported. Guehi is entering the last year of his contract and is unwilling to renew it; thus, Palace will have to see him walk away as a free agent. Thus, they will be under pressure to let him leave for the £35 million on the table.
