When fit, Manchester United fans affectionately call Luke Shaw "Shawberto Carlos" or "Shaw-naldinho" – a playful blend of Shaw and Ronaldinho. While a section of the Red Devils still adore him, there is a possibility that the English left-back may bid farewell to Old Trafford this summer to join the Saudi Pro League (SPL).

A prominent English tabloid declared that Manchester United's injury-ravaged star is growing tired of his lack of playtime and may decide to try his luck in the Arab country. The 30-year-old, who missed over 60 games last season alone, earns £150,000-a-week, a sum which should not trouble SPL sides. Though Ruben Amorim did start him in the Europa League final against Spurs, it remains to be seen if he will get a chance when the entire defence department is available for selection. He was not used on the left flank but as a centre-back during the summit clash that United lost 1-0.

Shaw did play United's pre-season game against Leeds in the United States on Saturday. However, Patrick Dorgu is expected to become the first-choice left-back for Amorim when the new Premier League season kicks off, and the arrival of Diego Leon from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño is also a threat to Shaw getting regular playtime, The Sun reported. Diogo Dalot is unlikely to get a chance on the left side any longer, but it is the other two younger teammates who can take significant game time away from Shaw.

Luke Shaw wants to make up for the numerous games he has missed over the years due to injuries, and he is willing to reach an agreement with a team with lesser competition to achieve this dream, The Sun claimed. Saudi teams play fewer games and pay well, meaning he will not have to take a pay cut to become a regular starter.

Since his arrival from Southampton in late 2014, Shaw has missed well over 300 games due to injuries and fitness woes. According to Transfermarkt, Luke Shaw's current market value is £10.5 million. While his name was not highlighted in the list of players United are open to offloading as part of a squad overhaul, he is not an untouchable at the Theatre of Dreams either. His current contract runs out in 2027.
