Manchester United transfer news: Antoine Semenyo uncertainty drawing Denzel Dumfries closer to Ruben Amorim, says report

Red Devils are not confident that Antoine Semenyo will arrive next summer, and 29-year-old Inter Milan right-back Dumfries could well be the Diogo Dalot upgrade that can turn the tables for Amorim

Manchester United's search for a right wing-back who can pose a greater threat in wide areas to the opposition has led them to Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries, a report said. The Dutchman, remembered even by those who don't follow Italian Serie A for his flare-up with Marcos Acuña, is definitely a level up from Diogo Dalot.

INEOS are very much interested in the 29-year-old as a short-term solution to the lack of attacking wing-backs that Amorim loves to have in his squad, and are closely monitoring his contract situation. A report claimed that Manchester United's scouts have made contact with Inter Milan, enquiring about Dumfries’ condition and his potential availability next year. This is not the first time that the BVV Barendrecht academy product has impressed the Red Devils.

Dumfries is currently nursing an injury and United will be looking to get him in the summer, TeamTalk said in a report. Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also in the race to land the Netherlands international, whose current contract with the Italian giants runs out in June 2028.

While the Serie A leaders value Dumfries very much, he is not labelled "untouchable" and thus can be snatched with an impressive transfer price, the report added. "Signing Dumfries would be a coup for Man Utd as he has been in fantastic form over the last two seasons. Indeed, Inter fans have described his performances as ‘legendary’, ‘amazing’ and ‘relentless’ this year," the TeamTalk report said.

Since his arrival from PSV in 2021, the right-footed star has managed 25 goals and 26 assists for Internazionale from 194 games. He has won two Italian Cups, three Italian Super Cups and one Scudetto with the team so far.

The Dumfries deal could get fast-tracked if Amorim's side fails to convince AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo to sign for them. The Ghana international can also operate on the wings and Amorim wanted to test him in that role as well at times, but there is a fair chance that he will refuse to come to Old Trafford amidst offers from several other teams including Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
