The IPL 2025 Orange Cap race is becoming an edge-of-the-seat thriller as Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan dethroned Mumbai Indians icon Suryakumar Yadav from the pole position. "SKY" had snatched the Orange Cap from the stylish Tamil Nadu batter only yesterday, but Sai Sudharsan came up with a scintillating 23-ball 48 against SunRisers Hyderabad at Ahmedabad on Friday to retake his place at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli slipped into the fifth position as GT skipper Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler played handy knocks against SRH. Buttler is now third with 470 runs from 10 innings while Gill has 465 from as many games. The RCB batter has managed 443 runs so far from 10 innings.
Youngest Orange Cap winner in IPL history
In 2021, CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad became the youngest Orange Cap winner in IPL history. The Chennai skipper, who has been ruled out of the ongoing tournament with an injury, was 24 years old at that time. However, Shubman Gill won the Orange Cap in 2023 when he scored an astonishing 890 runs from 17 games. He was 23 years old at the end of the memorable campaign.

Sai Sudharsan was born on October 15, 2001, meaning he will be turning 23 later this year. Thus, Sai, who became the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 IPL runs (25 innings) last year, can rewrite the record books if he can finish IPL 2025 as the most successful batter in terms of runs. He has been consistent throughout the season, and there is no reason he shouldn't achieve the feat. Fingers crossed!
GT vs SRH first innings: As it happened
Gujarat Titans managed 224/6 thanks to brilliant knocks from Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler. Gill struck a 38-ball 76, while while forging an opening stand of 87 runs in just 6.5 overs with Sudharsan. Buttler later took over and guided GT past 200 with his 64 off 37 deliveries.
GT amassed 82 runs in the power play, following which spin was introduced in the form of Zeeshan Ali and the leg-spinner gave his team a much-needed breakthrough by having Sudharsan caught by keeper Heinrich Klaasen off a googly.
