Pakistan's final ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group game against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi on Thursday was just a formality. Both teams were eliminated ahead of the dead-rubber but looked at the contest as a chance to salvage a win. However, heavy rainfall at Rawalpindi denied the Asian neighbours a chance to meet this goal as the match was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Bangladesh, due to their better NRR, finished ahead of Pakistan in third position. Thus, despite getting a point each, Pakistan's Champions Trophy campaign at home ended with a bottom-placed finish in their group.
Pakistan got the chance to host the ICC tournament at a time when the country was going through a tough financial crisis. The South Asian nation is dependent on International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailouts and loans from other countries. In 2024, prolonged inflation shot up the price of essentials such as tomatoes by 100%, reports showed. Therefore, there was criticism from many quarters when the government and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to shell out sums to prepare Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium and other grounds for the tournament.
How much money will PCB get from the tournament?
Pakistan had its eyes set on the prize money despite the cries of the nay-sayers growing loud. The host nation's early exit, failing to qualify even for the semifinals despite the home advantage, is a huge setback for the PCB. While the cricket body can now forget getting the prize money, it is not going to go empty-handed at the end of the tournament. Here is why:

Pakistan's NRR (-1.087) is below than that of Group B's worst-performer's England (-0.305). However, the Three Lions have a game in hand against South Africa and if they are badly beaten, there is a chance of their NRR dropping below that of Pakistan's. Teams finishing seventh and eighth in the tournament are being handed $140,000 (₹1,220,032 approx) by the ICC, reports show. As things stand, this is the best PCB can hope for as a fifth or sixth-placed finish, which could have got them $350,000 (₹30,522,800 approx), is highly unlikely.
