Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals on Thursday confirmed the inclusion of South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj to the squad in place of pacer Prasidh Krishna for the ongoing Indian Premier League. RR have brought him on board for his base price of Rs 50 Lakh.

Prasidh Krishna recently underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon and is currently recovering. Royals are also without their first-choice overseas spinner Adam Zampa, who pulled out of the T20 league citing personal reasons.

Seasoned cricketer Keshav Maharaj has played 27 T20Is, 44 ODIs and 50 Tests and has scalped 237 wickets in international cricket. Additionally, the 34-year-old has played 159 T20s, picking up 130 wickets, and can chip in with some handy runs down the order.

"Welcoming the South African all-rounder to the franchise, Royals’ Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara said, “Keshav (Maharaj) is a great addition to our squad with his quality and understanding of the game. He is hugely experienced and an outstanding individual off the field as well. His addition will further improve the depth and quality of our squad, and we look forward to having him contribute with his performances.”

Maharaj has joined the Royals in Jaipur this evening and will be eligible for selection for the team's next match," the franchise said in an official release.
