Netflix is bringing out a much-anticipated K-drama titled "Tantara", earlier known by its working titles ‘Show Business’ and ‘Slowly, Intensely.’ Scheduled to premiere worldwide on 11 December 2026, the series marks the first on-screen collaboration between two major Korean stars, Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo.
Written by Noh Hee-kyung, known for acclaimed dramas such as "Our Blues" and "It's Okay, That's Love," the series is directed by Lee Yoon-jung. The director reunites with Gong Yoo for the first time since the popular 2007 drama, "The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince." Produced by Studio Dragon, GTist and Imaginus, "Tantara" is planned as a 22-episode series.
Set between the 1960s and 1980s, "Tantara" explores the growth of South Korea’s entertainment and music industries in the years following the Korean War. It follows people from difficult backgrounds as they struggle to build successful careers in show business.
The drama promises to show both the excitement of chasing dreams and the harsh reality of an industry shaped by competition, powerful figures and social change. Its characters must make difficult choices and personal sacrifices as they fight for success in a world with limited opportunities.
Song Hye-kyo ("The Glory", "Autumn in my Heart") plays Min-ja, a determined woman from a poor family who refuses to let hardship stop her ambitions. She dreams of entering the music business and challenges the social rules that restrict women’s opportunities, particularly in the early record-production industry.
Gong Yoo ("Train to Busan", "Squid Game") plays Dong-gu, Min-ja’s childhood friend. Although reckless at times, he is deeply loyal to her and remains by her side as their lives change over several decades.
The supporting cast includes Cha Seung-won ("Uprising", "Night in Paradise") as Gil-yeo, a leading composer caught up in the power struggles of the music industry, and Lee Ha-nee ("Knight Flower", "One the Woman") as Yang-ja, an aspiring singer with strong ambitions. Kim Seol-hyun ("The Great Battle", "Summer Strike") plays Min-hui, an independent and complicated rival navigating the changing entertainment world. Veteran actress Na Moon-hee ("I Can Speak", "Unstoppable High Kick") also appears in a supporting role.
Interest in the series grew following Netflix’s recent fan event in Seoul. On 24 October, Song Hye-kyo, Gong Yoo and Kim Seol-hyun appeared together publicly for the first time at Netflix Janchi, an event celebrating the streaming platform’s tenth anniversary. The actors introduced their characters, shared playful moments and spoke enthusiastically about the project.
Netflix also unveiled the drama’s first official poster. The artwork places the main characters on a vintage music turntable, reflecting the series’ historical setting and its connection to the music industry. During the event, the cast described the period as one where life could be "brutal and violent," yet dreams of success continued to inspire people.
Considering the celebrated cast, experienced creative team and story of ambition and sacrifice, "Tantara" is shaping up to be a major Korean drama to watch out for.
