With India holding off on their 15-member World Cup squad until the last minute, all eyes were on shocking exclusions and surprise picks. Captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed the squad at 1.30 pm on Tuesday. The September 5 deadline set by the ICC came exactly a month ahead of the commencement of the global tournament on October 5.

Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain. Recovering from injuries, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have made it to the squad. Rahul and Ishan Kishen will be the wicketkeeping options.

Names of Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna and Sanju Samson were doing rounds as players who were likely to be excluded. But none of them couldn't make it. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin also missed out. Rishabh Pant, who was injured, is also excluded from the list.

Talking about the players who missed out, captain Rohit said, "It's inevitable that some players will miss out on World Cup selection. With the wealth of talent available in India, narrowing it down to just 15 players is a challenging task. We believe we have selected the best possible squad of 15."
