Morocco, the first African team to enter the semi-final of a World Cup, has officially lodged a complaint with FIFA over the refereeing in their loss to France in Qatar World Cup 2022.
Morocco had lost to France 2-0 in the second semi-final on Wednesday.
According to reports, FRMF, the football governing body of the country has lodged a complaint to FIFA. Referee Cesar Ramos denied Morocco two penalties in the first half of the semi-final, they alleged.
"The FMRF has written to the relevant body to review the refereeing decisions that deprived the Moroccan team of two penalties that were indisputable in the view of several refereeing specialists," the Moroccan ruling body said in a statement.
"The FMRF was equally astonished that the video assistant referee (VAR) did not react to these situations," it added.
In one of the instances, Morocco's Sofiane Boufal was penalised with a yellow card during the first half when they contested Hernandez's tackle inside the penalty box.
FRMF on its website said that it "will not hesitate to defend the rights of our national team, demanding fairness."
Ramos oversaw three matches across the group stage and knockouts in the Qatar World Cup. The first match he oversaw between Denmark and Tunisia, which ended in a draw, saw him booking three players.
Morocco will be facing Croatia in the third place play-off on December 17, while France will take on Argentina in the World Cup final on December 18 at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
