India skipper KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bat against Bangladesh in the first Test here on Wednesday.

Team India has opted to play with three spinners — Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin — and two pacers.

India needs to win both matches of the series to stay alive in the race for the World Test Championship final. In all their previous test encounters, India has never lost a match to Bangladesh.

Rahul is captioning the team after regular captain Rohit Sharma missed the game due to a thumb injury.  Cheteshwar Pujara has been made the vice-captain of the Indian team.

According to the BCCI, Rohit Sharma met with a specialist in Mumbai for his left thumb injury and has been advised of appropriate management.
