On Saturday, a blunder by Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen virtually gifted Liverpool a free goal to help it win 3-2 at Wembley.

Manchester City were already trailing 1-0 at Wembley when Steffen allowed Sadio Mané to score Liverpool's second. “Receiving a tame back pass from John Stones, Steffen dawdled controlling the ball rather than using his second touch to clear. It gave time for Mané race into the penalty area to put him under pressure and slide in to nudge the ball over the line,” AP reported. Liverpool led 3-0 at half-time, thanks to two goals by Mané and a header from Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool will meet the winner of Sunday's semifinal between Chelsea and Crystal Palace in the final on May 14.

Liverpool has had a spectacular run this season. “The Merseyside club won the League Cup in February and are second in the Premier League, having also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League to remain on track for a haul of four trophies this season,” Reuters reported.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was circumspect on his team's hopes of a quadruple triumph this season. “I think a game like today [against Manchester City] shows it [is] even more how unlikely it is to do something like that. We went through against City... and in three days, we play again against Manchester United, who with their three points and the results from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, the fight for the Champions League is open for all of the three. Then in a few days, we play Everton... then we play Villarreal, (which) will not be a friendly game. Then Newcastle United and all these kind of things, so it's just incredibly intense and it is really unlikely the team will win all the games,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Despite the pragmatism, Klopp said he was raring to go. “But I couldn't care less, to be honest. It is just, 'let's go for it, let's try to win the next game' and then we will see how we can recover between now and then,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Sadio Mané declared winning the quadruple was a dream and “We have a lot of games to go, we will try to do our best,” Reuters reported.
