A transcript of a chat between Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha and a journalist that the cricketer tweeted on Saturday appears all set to snowball into a controversy.
The journalist, whom Saha described as “respected”, appeared to warn Saha of consequences for purportedly turning down an interview request.
On Monday morning, The Times of India reported the BCCI is planning a “thorough investigation” into the matter.
The Times of India quoted sources as saying “the matter cannot be put to rest until every single detail of what Saha has said in the interview and the tweet he shared is looked into... Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI. The onus is on the Board to not let its own player down. That aside, if there is any kind of a nexus at work here, one has to look into it.”
The BCCI is also going to examine whether other players had similar experiences.

The Indian Express reported “BCCI will ask the cricketer to reveal the unnamed person’s identity before deciding on its course of action.” The BCCI could undertake a forensic investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the incident. “If the sender of those messages indeed happens to be a journalist covering Indian cricket, the Board will take steps towards banning him,” an official told The Times of India.
Saha received considerable support from former officials and retired cricketers over the incident. Harbhajan Singh, Virendar Sehwag and Pragyan Ojha were among those who sought action from the BCCI over the incident.
