Sourav Ganguly took to social media today to confirm that a biopic is being made on his cricketing journey and that Luv Films will be producing it.

Ganguly, fondly called Dada, is one of the most successful skippers in the history of Indian cricket and currently serves as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

"Cricket has been everything in my life, it gave confidence and ability to walk forward with my head held high, a journey to be cherished.

"Thrilled to share Luv Films will produce a biopic on my journey and bring it to life for the big screen (sic)," the legendary cricketer wrote on social media.

Luv Films, the production house founded by filmmaker Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, too shared the film announcement on Instagram on Thursday.

"We are thrilled to announce that Luv Films will produce Dada Sourav Ganguly's biopic," the statement read.

"We are honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility and look forward to a great innings," the producers further said.

Though the cast is yet to be announced, the names of Ranbir Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan are doing the rounds. The former, some reports say, was recommended by Ganguly himself.

Kapoor, interestingly, had played actor Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju.

Ganguly played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, scoring 7,212 and 11,363 runs respectively. A master of comebacks, he time and again proved his detractors wrong during his playing days. But what accorded him cult status was the way he fashioned a bunch of match-winners out of talented youngsters, which went on to notch some epic wins both at home and, more importantly, abroad.

Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Kaif, Irfan Pathan, M.S. Dhoni, Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan became household names and world-beaters under Ganguly’s leadership. He led India to the famous win over Australia in Tests at home in 2001 series, the 2002 Natwest Trophy, 2003 ODI World Cup final. India also managed to draw away Tests in Australia and England and won a Test series in Pakistan in 2004. India were also joint-winners in the 2002 Champions Trophy.

Ganguly’s career also had its share of drama, too – from reports of staying aloof from other players in his early playing days to the infamous fallout with coach Greg Chappell.

After the biopic on Dhoni and docu-drama on Sachin, the biopic on Ganguly will be eagerly awaited by cricket fans.

Luv Films has produced films such as "Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety", "De De Pyaar De", "Malang" and "Chhalaang".

Upcoming titles under the banner include Luv Ranjan's directorial starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, "Kuttey" and "Ufff".
