Sunrisers Hyderabad’s New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson has said that he is “tired” of coming second in Super Overs after his side suffered a narrow defeat against Delhi Capitals in an IPL match in Chennai on Sunday.

After Williamson’s unbeaten 66 helped SRH level the scores at 159, the match went into a Super Over. Captain David Warner and Williamson took 7 runs in the over, and Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan managed to successfully score 8 runs to win the match.

During the press conference after the match, Williamson expressed his frustration over losing in the Super Over.

“I am getting tired of coming second in the Super Overs. As a batting side chasing a score that was very competitive... there are a lot of positives to take out of it. Really uncanny in a game of cricket that things can end in a tie, but I suppose it is very, very exciting. A lot of positives, we move on really quickly to Delhi,” Williamson said.

The New Zealand captain has had his share of Super Overs in the past, the most famous being the 2019 World Cup final, in which his side managed to tie the Super Over, but England won the title on account of the boundary count rule that was in place at the time.

“It is a game of very small margins and I think, if we are being honest, we just want to do different aspects of our game a bit better.

“This game, if you are able to do it, then the result can change quite quickly. I suppose when it ends in a tie, you can look at the one run throughout the whole innings. I think on the whole, a lot of positives,” he added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are placed seventh in the eight-team standings with 2 points from five matches.

SRH will face Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
