West Indies star cricketer Chris Gayle thanked India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing COVID-19 vaccines to Jamaica under the Vaccine Maitri Initiative.

The first shipment of 50,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine donated by India under the initiative, reached Jamaica earlier this month.

"PM Modi, the Government of India and the people of India, I want to thank you all for your donation of the vaccine to Jamaica. We appreciate it, thank you so much. India, I will be seeing you soon and thanks once again," Gayle said in a 17-second video tweeted by the Indian High Commission in Jamaica.

Gayle’s teammate and all-rounder Andre Russell, and former West Indian cricketers like Vivian Richards, Richie Richardson, Jimmy Adams, and Ramnaresh Sarwan, too, had thanked PM Modi and India for providing vaccine doses to the Caribbean countries.

Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness had taken to Twitter to express his gratitude to India. " I am extremely pleased to report that yesterday afternoon, we received our first shipment of 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the Government of India. We express our deep appreciation to the Government and people of India for this very much-needed support."
