Golfing legend Tiger Woods has been transferred to a medical facility in Los Angeles for further treatment following his car crash, a statement read. He had undergone surgery for serious injuries on his right leg at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre where he was taken right after the crash.

“Mr Tiger Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre for continuing orthopaedic care and recovery. On behalf of our staff, it was an honour to provide orthopaedic trauma care to one of our generation’s greatest athletes,” said Dr Anish Mahajan, interim CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre.

Dr Mahajan added that Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre will not provide further information to “respect patient confidentiality”.

The 15-time major champion was involved in a car crash on Tuesday when his SUV hit a median, struck a tree and rolled over several times in a suburb in Los Angeles that is notorious for accidents, a report said.

After the crash, the first officer to arrive at the scene said Woods was “very fortunate” that he even came out of it alive.

Reports quoted Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva that Woods was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and it was “purely an accident”.

Woods underwent surgery to repair “significant orthopaedic injuries” to his lower right leg and ankle. A rod was also inserted into his shin bone along with several screws and pins to stabilise his foot and ankle.

Woods’s injuries have cast doubt on his ability to compete at the top level again. Two months ago, the golfer had undergone a fifth back operation.
