The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee on Friday handed an additional two-match ban on Mumbai City FC’s Hugo Boumous and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh for “gross serious indisciplinary unsporting acts and misdemeanours”.

The Disciplinary Committee found the footballer guilty of “insulting and defaming match officials” during Mumbai’s Indian Super League match against FC Goa on February 8 at the GMV Stadium in Bambolim.

Boumous received his fourth caution of the season before being given a red card for abusing referee Pranjal Banerjee during the 96th minute of the game, which was drawn 3-3.

The 25-year-old was automatically suspended for two matches with three yellow cards from earlier. With the additional two bans by the committee, the midfielder now has a four-match ban in his hands.

According to Article 50 (Misconduct against match officials) of the AIFF disciplinary code, “including the automatic suspension incurred in accordance with art. 19 par. 4, the overall suspension imposed on any person receiving a direct red card shall be for: a) at least four matches for unsporting conduct towards a match official.”

The Golden Ball winner of last season will miss Mumbai City FC’s remaining games in the league phase, and will be eligible for selection again in the playoffs.

The Disciplinary Committee also delivered their verdict on two separate cases.

FC Goa’s Edu Bedia will face no sanctions after he was charged with “unsporting behaviour” towards Chennaiyin FC defender Deepak Tangri in an alleged ‘biting’ incident.

The AIFF body was satisfied with Bedia’s response along with the evidences presented by the Spaniard during a hearing.

Hyderabad FC’s Mohammed Yasir is also not facing additional sanctions for his red-card incident against SC East Bengal on February 12.
