The final of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, which will be played from September 19 in the United Arab Emirates this year, is likely to be postponed, as per reports.

The IPL governing council is considering that the final, which is slated for November 8, be postponed to November 10 to allow stakeholders to make further use of the Diwali week, according to a report in the Times of India.

This comes after broadcaster Star India expressed reservations regarding “constricted scheduling”, adding that it wanted to make the most use of the festive week.

The governing council is expected to take a final decision on the same in its meeting later this week. If it is agreed to postpone the final, it will be the first time that an IPL final is not held on a Sunday.

The council will also finalise the schedule of the tournament and discuss “major issues” in the meeting, including quarantine measure, training facilities, stay and travel arrangements.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier said that an extension of the schedule is not possible because of India’s tour of Australia.

If the postponement of the final to November 10 is confirmed, then the Indian team, which is scheduled to play a four-match Test series in Australia from December 3, will go directly from the UAE.
