Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss in their World Cup game against Afghanistan at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday and decided to bat first.

Commenting on the wicket at the toss, Kohli said it looked “like a good, hard wicket”. Kohli declared India didn't take Afghanistan lightly, adding “they are a dangerous side”. India have made one change for the match against Afghanistan, bringing in pace bowler Mohammed Shami in place of the injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Afghanistan have dropped Noor Ali Zadran and Dawlat Zadran and in their place picked Hazratullah Zazai and Aftab Alam.

India go in as favourites into the match against Afghanistan. Afghanistan have lost all five of the matches they have played so far. On the other hand, India remain unbeaten, having defeated South Africa, Australia and Pakistan; the India-New Zealand group match was rained out.
