David Warner hit his second century of the World Cup to lead Australia to a formidable 381 for five in 50 overs in a rain-hit group match against Bangladesh at Nottingham on Thursday.

The left-handed opener mixed caution with aggression, scoring 166 off 147 balls with 14 fours and five sixes. It was his 16th ODI hundred, and his sixth 150-plus knock. He had scored a century against Pakistan in the tournament.

Warner added 121 runs with his skipper Aaron Finch (53) and then put on a 192-run partnership with Usman Khawaja (89).

Glenn Maxwell provided the fireworks later, with a 10-ball 32 (three sixes and two fours). He was run out after a mix-up with Khwaja, who missed out on a well-deserved hundred.

Medium pacer Soumya Sarkar (3/58) took three wickets while Mustafizur Rehman (1/56) dismissed Steve Smith (1).

Rain halted play with just one over left to be bowled in the Australian innings.

Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rehman bowled disciplined opening spells.

It was only after spinners—Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan—were introduced that the two batsmen showed some aggression. Warner launched one from Shakib for a massive six over mid-wicket while Finch punished Hasan with back-to-back shots over the ropes.

Soumya Sarkar sent back Finch with his fifth ball. But the joy was short-lived as Warner and Usman Khawaja joined forces to raise 192 runs for the second wicket.
