New Zealand's Trent Boult claimed a hat-trick as his side defeated Pakistan by 47 runs in the first one-day international of the three-match series in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. Pakistan, who were chasing a target of 267, were all out for 219 in 47.2 overs.

Boult is only the third New Zealand bowler to take a hat-trick in ODIs. He reduced Pakistan to 8/3, taking the wickets of Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez in the third over, and finished with 3-54.

“It's nice to be back out there and get the win for the boys,” said Boult, who was the Man of the Match.

New Zealand opted to bat first after winning the toss, and managed to post a challenging total of 266/9. The Kiwis had an early scare after Pakistan's pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi struck and scalped the wickets of George Worker and Colin Munro.

However, Ross Taylor and wicket-keeper Tom Latham came together to pile on 130 runs for the fourth wicket. Taylor top-scored with 80 and Latham

scored 68.

Pakistan leg-spinner Shadab Khan took an impressive four wickets for 38.

Pakistan, during its innings, crumbled to 85/6 before making a solid effort to bounce back with captain Sarfraz Ahmed and Imaf Wasim adding 103 runs for the seventh wicket. However, Colin de Grandhomme managed to scalp Ahmed's wicket making it easier for the Kiwis to seal the win. Grandhomme took 2 for 40 while Lockie Ferguson finished with 3 for 36.

New Zealand leads the three-match series 1-0.
